It tells the story of a country wracked by political instability, religious conflict and eventually civil war and revolution, but also going through subtle but profound social change. Jonathan Healey is a seventeenth-century historian, who works at Oxford University’s Department for Continuing Education where he teaches social and local history.

Healey specializes in early modern social history, particularly the history of the poor, the legal system, and the English Civil War. The talk was chaired by Kellogg Fellow Tara Stubbs.
