Sowams Heritage Area presented to the East Providence Chamber of Commerce

Members of the East Providence Chamber of Commerce heard a presentation on the Sowams Heritage Area Project by Coordinator David Weed at their June 11th meeting at Davenport’s Restaurant. Click here for a 30-minute video of the presentation.

 

(Above) Chamber Executive Director Laura McNamara introduced Weed who pointed out locations in East Providence from the 17th century, including the spring where Roger Williams first settled in 1636 and two of the 17th century houses still standing in the City.

 

Weed also points out the Newman Church which was founded in 1643 in the Ring of the Green in Rumford when East Providence was part of Rehoboth.
