Professor Creviston on the New England Colonies

Professor Creviston offers a lecture for students at Fresno State University on the early beginnings of the New England colonies and Puritanism. Click here for the two-hour lecture given on August 10, 2020.

Creviston begins by describing the religious background of Protestantism in Europe that shaped the later thinking of the Puritan Separatists.

Creviston goes into some detail about Puritan theology and the Reformation to provide background to what happened in New England.

John Winthrop preaches that New England needs to be the example for all others to follow, but population growth resulted in less and less adherence to the original vision of the Colony and more concern about economic growth.
