Living Godly Lives: A Look at Puritan Morality with Francis Bremer

Dr. Francis J. Bremer, Professor Emeritus of History at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, and author of more than twelve books on Puritanism, will examine what Puritans saw as the way to godliness and dispel common myths about their views on subjects such as drinking, sexuality, and dress. Bremer talks about how Puritans considered drunkenness to be a problem of excess not of alcohol. In fact, Puritans regarded excess of any behavior as sinful.

Rather than being joyless prudes in black dress, Bremer argues that Puritans enjoyed life and dressed in colorful outfits.

John Winthrop and his wife were exemplars of married life and had a passionate love for one another, something that isn’t always described.
