Dr. Linford Fisher presents on Native American Slavery at Smith’s Castle

(Above) Historian Robert Geake introduced Professor Fisher at Smith’s Castle in North Kingston. Fisher is leading a team of scholars in the creation of the Database of Indigenous Slavery in the Americans (DISA). In addition to creating this important database, Fisher is completing a book entitled Atlantic Passages: The Rise and Fall of Native Slavery in the Atlantic World, which will be published by Oxford University Press.

 

(Above) Dr. Fisher begins by outlining the main points of his talk and goes on to provide details of what he has learned about the history of the enslavement of Native Americans.

   

Dr. Fisher talks with Sowams Heritage Area Project Steering Committee member Carl Ferreira who has an avid interest in the subject and has presented on the same topic.
