Coggeshall Farm Museum holds a Land Acknowledgement Ceremony in Bristol

Over fifty people gathered at Coggeshall Farm Museum in Bristol, RI, on April 29, 2023 for a ceremony to celebrate the adoption of a Land Acknowledgement honoring the land of the Pokanoket Tribe by the facility that is now managed by Old Sturbridge Village. The event included Pokanoket history, storytelling, drumming, and dancing by the guests. Click here for a 28-minute video of the event.

(Above) Following a traditional tobacco prayer by Harry “Hawk” Edmonds (right, center), Museum Director Shelli Costa (center, left) unveiled the Land Acknowledgement (click to enlarge) that will used to create a permanent marker at the Farm.

Ms. Costa welcomed Kathryn “She Walks with the Wind” Hewson and Sachem Tracey “Dancing Star” Brown who later invited all of the guests to join in a friendship dance with the drum.
