RWU student reaches out to Dr. Weed about Bristol history

Roger Williams University student Kepa Loyola reached out to Dr. David Weed of the Sowams Heritage Area Project on August 26, 2021 to ask about the early history of Warren and the Pokanoket People who lived there until the end of the King Philip War. “We’re obscuring the history that is in the books, I guess, but we’re not teaching it,” he said. “Even the whole Bristol History is misconstrued,” he added. Kepa is working on a project to inform RWU students about the history of the land that the University occupies today. “Kepa’s questions were great,” noted Dr. Weed. “I can’t wait to see what he does with the project. A video of the 48-minute interview can be seen on line.
