Dr. David Weed, coordinator of the Sowams Heritage Area Project, presented at an event organized by the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society at the Historic Statehouse building on September 24, 2018. Dr. weed began the presentation by talking about Massasoit Osamequin who welcomed the Pilgrims and kept a peace treaty for over fifty years. He went on to detail the major events that changed the Sowams Area from indigenous to colonial occupation. He concluded his remarks by describing the early settlement of Bristol beginning in 1680 and then taking questions from the audience. Click here for a one-hour video of the presentation.
