King Philip War historian and producer of the Discovering Historic New England TV9 cable news program in Seekonk, Dave Norton, revealed several sites in East Providence that Sowams Heritage Area Cooridnator Dave Weed did not know about. Based on research that Norton recently discovered, he was able to locate the place on the Seekonk River where colonial troops crossed during the War in 1675. He also showed Weed two houses in East Providence whose original foundations were from houses on the Ring of the Green, the 1643 settlement started by Rev. Samuel Newman. The houses were burned during the King Phlip War. Following the tour, the two returned to the cemetery across from the Newman Church where some of the early settlers are buried for a photo.
