Walk of Pineese Ceremony at Mount Hope in Bristol

The Pokanoket Tribe/Pokanoket Nation tribal members celebrated the Walk of the Pineese with two young men who completed this tradition at their ancestral home of Potumtuk at Mount Hope in Bristol, RI, on August 4, 2019.

Winter Hawk and Winding River are led down from the lookout at Mount Hope by Strong Turtle and Clever Fox where they were left alone at Potumtuck (Mt. Hope) for several days and where they performed other ceremonies.

Members of the Tribe gather at the Seat of the Massasoit where Sachem Dancing Star welcomes the Warriors back from their quest and to initiate them as men into the Tribe as Powwas Shining Heart and Sagamore Winds of Thunder look on.

Sachem Dancing Star asks Powwas Shining Heart to lay hands on Winter Hawk during the ceremony as Winding River looks on Clever Fox bows in prayer.

Winding River is welcomed by Clan Grandmother, Wamsutta, and invited to pass the sacred pipe to the earth and sky in four directions while Strong Turtle looks on.
