Carpenter Museum Visit, Rehoboth

Dave Weed had the opportunity to meet with Carpenter Museum Director Dr. Elyssa Tardif and Genealogy Researcher Lende McMullen on January 17, 2013 to talk about the Sowams Heritage Area project and to learn more about 17th century Rehoboth. Of particular interest was the Tobey archaeology dig site near the museum that yeilded numerous tools and other artifacts from the indigenous people who occupied the land next to the Palmer River more than 4,000 years ago. Dave was invited to participate in the upcoming Genealogy and Historic Symposium on Saturday, March 3 in celebration of the town’s 375th anniversary. He agreed to display and describe maps that show the transition from early Sowams to the towns that currently occupy the area.
